Social Psychology Paper Scenario - PSY120 â€Å"Social influence effects of the presence of others in the way people think, feel, and behave† (Kowalski Westen, 2005). Social influence is associated with both behaviors because the changes in behaviors are due to the attitudes of others or guidance towards a particular direction. Sarah has not had this kind of influence before, always following the rules, she has done what she’s told and followed the path set for her by her parents. This path and these rules were not her choice and she most likely never experienced anything with her peers that strayed off this set path. Social psychologists have developed several theories for explaining the ways in which the psychology of the crowd differs from and interacts with that of the ind ividuals within it. The social interaction of the party guests through the fight that broke out was one of excitement and probably some fear. The term â€Å"mob mentality† is used to refer to unique behavioral characteristics that emerge when people are in large groups. It is often used in a negative sense, because the term â€Å"mob† typically conjures up an image of an aggressive, chaotic group of people. Social psychologists who study group behavior also use terms such as â€Å"herd behavior,† herd mentality or â€Å"crowd hysteria† to describe similar behaviors. The study of mob mentality is used to analyze situations that range from problems during evacuations to public gatherings that turn violent.
